Winchester Art History Group

Established 2008

Winchester Art History Group was founded in 2008 by local art historian, Bernard Courtis. It offers a programme of themed study on art history topics, with talks from art historians, guided visits to museums and galleries and other places of interest. It is a non profit organisation administered by a group of volunteers.

THE USE OF COLOUR IN WESTERN ART
The intention of the theme is to address the use and significance of colour and colour theory in the practice and development of Western art over the centuries and across different media. This will range from medieval churches to Op Art, and include Victorian art, Scottish Colourists, Fauvism, Hockney and Divisionism/Pointillism along the way.

An exhibition of paintings, prints, sculpture, land art and textiles from artists including Fiona McIntyre, Jon Edgar, Howard Phipps and Simon Hitchens, all of which explore the many experiences of walking the South Downs Way.
